Common Questions
What is Massage Therapy?

Massage Therapy is the manipulation of the soft tissues of the body including muscles, connective tissue, tendons, ligaments and joints. Massage Therapy helps alleviate the soft tissue discomfort associated with everyday and occupational stresses, muscular over-use and many chronic conditions. If employed early enough after accidents involving trauma and injury, Massage Therapy can greatly reduce the development of painful muscular patterning.

What happens on the first visit?
What happens on the first visit?

On the first visit you will complete a confidential health history as part of your assessment. This is important as the Massage Therapist needs to know if you have any medical conditions or are taking any medications. The Massage Therapist will listen to your concerns, assess your individual needs as well as other factors that may be contributing to your injury (lifestyle, postures, etc.). The Massage Therapist will then develop a treatment plan with you to ensure you receive appropriate treatment that will help you return, as much as possible, to your normal activities.

What is my role as a client?

Every treatment is modelled to your requests. You should feel free at any time to share your pain and comfort level during the treatment. Communication between the client and therapist is key to an effective treatment.

How can Massage Therapy help me?

Massage Therapy can be beneficial to people of all ages and conditions and is widely used to help obtain relief from many specific problems, including:

  • Inflammatory conditions such as arthritis and tendinitis

  • Stress relief and associated conditions

  • Headaches and migraines

  • Muscle and related conditions such as spasms, strains and sprains

  • Back pain

  • Repetitive strain injury

  • Circulatory and respiratory problems

  • Pregnancy and symptom management

  • Post-injury and post surgical rehabilitation

Do I need to arrive early for my appointment?

If this is your first appointment, please arrive 10-15 minutes early to fill out a health history form and to take your blood pressure. If this is not your first appointment you can arrive 5 minutes early.

Do I have to remove all my clothing for Massage Therapy?

One of the keys to the success of your Massage Therapy session is your ability to relax and feel comfortable. Therefore, the decision is yours; remove only the articles of clothing that you feel comfortable removing. Traditional treatments work best administered directly without the barriers of clothing on the areas being treated. During a session you will be fully covered with a sheet or blanket, only the area of your body that is being worked on is uncovered. Before and after the session you will undress and dress in complete privacy.

What payment methods are accepted?

Cash, credit, and cheques are accepted. E-transfers are accepted prior to the treatment date to the email address temagamimassagetherapy @gmail.com.
